Also formally known as Pura Luhu Uluwatu and an hour and fifteen minutes away from its neighboring tourist destination Kuta, is home to a magnificent temple situated at a cliff. It has been believed to be one of the most important temples in the area. Locals have been taught by ancestors that this temple was built to ward off evil spirits of the ocean. Located on top of a steep cliff, visiting this place will surely amaze you.

A minimal entrance fee is required when you tour the temple. Upon entry, they would require you to wear a sarong around your waist and to cover your feet. You may bring your own sarong or rent some at the temple’s entrance. The best views would be visible from the southern and northern vantage points within the temple area.

The temple also has a unique feature: monkeys. Although not encrypted in its very walls as art, these living creatures roam around the temple and even interact with people. You might want to be a bit more cautious because sometimes they can be aggressive. However, since these  creatures are used to having visitors and taking pictures with them, they can be friendly at times too. Also, tourists are also cautioned about bringing food and beverages to the premises since the monkeys tend to steal them away. Sometimes, they could even snatch your sunglasses, hats, cameras or other small items. The monkeys have adapted that they will receive an award such as food in exchange for returning the things that they’ve snatched! Pretty wise, eh? So be careful about showing off your things as they might just take them away from you and trick you into giving them food as ransom. Geez! Monkeys are smart!
